Cobham Band proudly represented the London and South Eastern region at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, held in Cheltenham, delivering a performance that drew praise for its musicality and dynamic contrasts.

Under the baton of Will Wilkins, the band opened with a strong and confident start. The British Bandsman website commended the ensemble for its “good grasp on style and ensemble” and highlighted the “gorgeously metallic and bright sound” of the trombones. The chorale section was described as “smooth and luscious from the first chord – stunning playing from solo horn,” while the euphonium solo earned admiration for being “so smooth and clean.”
This was the band’s first ever qualification at the National Finals, and was competing with some excellent 4th Section bands from across the country. The overall impression was positive with the band coming 12th out of 17. One adjudicator summed it up:
“A solid performance with some good dynamic contrast. Soloists played well. Well done.”
Alex Gaze, a Cobham Band member, expressed his pride in the achievement:
“Competing at the National Finals is a huge milestone for us. The dedication of our players and the guidance of Will Wilkins have been outstanding. We’re thrilled to showcase Cobham’s talent on a national stage.”
Cobham Band also extends heartfelt thanks to the RC Sheriff’s Trust for their generous financial support, which made this journey possible.
