Jubilee Weekend

The band took part in the Jubilee weekend celebrations, playing at ‘picnic in the park’ in Merton on Sunday and ‘Jubilee Celebrations’ in Weybridge on Monday.  Despite the inclement weather there was a good sized audience, many of whom were waving flags and singing.

Due to Musical Director Robin Langdon being away on holiday, the band was conducted by David Ruel on Sunday and Jack Smith on Monday – a big thank-you to both.

Amongst the music played were ‘Jerusalem’, ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and, of course, ‘God Save the Queen’.

Guildford Bandstand

The band played a concert under the shade of the bandstand in Castle Grounds, Guildford on Sunday 27th May.  It was one of the hottest days of the year so far and there was a large audience that enjoyed the concert whilst relaxing in the park.

The music played included ‘Memory’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’ and ‘All Through The Night’.  Solo cornet players Joe Smith and Darren Abbott played ‘Trumpet Fiesta’.

Three in a row

The band entered the scaba Entertainment Contest at the Hawth theatre in Crawley on Sunday 20th May 2012, playing a timed short program including Trumpet Fiesta, Braveheart and Cute.  Robin Langdon, the bands Musical Director won the prize for the best compere, making it the third competition in a row that has seen the band come away with a prize!

The photograph shows Robin Langdon receiving the prize for ‘Section ‘B’ –  best Compere/Conductor’ from Sally Coleman, executive committee member of scaba.
