Westminster Abbey 2012

The Cobham Band played in Westmister Abbey Gardens on Wednesday 25th July 2012 as part of their “Brass on the Grass” Summer program. It was one of the hottest days of the year so far and a large audience gathered in the the shade of the trees for the lunchtime concert.

The band played for an hour and a half, starting with a piece called Jubilee written by our Musical Director Robin Langdon in celebration of the Jubilee year. Other music included traditional band marches, a James Bond selection, Best of ABBA, All Through the Night and Trumpet Fiesta.

The Westminster Abbey Gardens are a very beautiful retreat from the hustle and bustle of London and this prestigious event is very popular with the band members.

The band finished the concert with the audience standing to two verses of the National Anthem.

Jubilee Weekend

The band took part in the Jubilee weekend celebrations, playing at ‘picnic in the park’ in Merton on Sunday and ‘Jubilee Celebrations’ in Weybridge on Monday.  Despite the inclement weather there was a good sized audience, many of whom were waving flags and singing.

Due to Musical Director Robin Langdon being away on holiday, the band was conducted by David Ruel on Sunday and Jack Smith on Monday – a big thank-you to both.

Amongst the music played were ‘Jerusalem’, ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and, of course, ‘God Save the Queen’.
