One of our former Musical Directors, David Ruel, kindly returned as guest conductor for a concert in The Vera Fletcher Hall in Thames Ditton on Saturday 25th February.
The theme was Showtime and featured music from stage, film and long-standing artists. The concert opened with Breezin’ Down Broadway and included Tom Jones in concert, Zorbas Dance, Sullivan Fantasy and Finale from Faust.
A raffle was held during the evening which raised £75 for the Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Charity.
The band returned to the Menuhin Hall for the annual Autumn Concert on November 14th.
A very varied program was played starting with Entry of the Gladiators and included Sullivan Fantasy and Rule Britannia. Solos were played by Mat Baker on cornet (My Old Kentucky Home), James Simpson on trombone (The Acrobat), Julie Beaven on xylophone (On The Track) and Beryl McMillan on Flugel (Loves Old Sweet Song).
During the evening the award for the Bandsman of the year was presented to Dan Byrnes
The band played in the Walled Garden, Sunbury on Sunday 8th June. The weather was fantastic and a very large audience came to enjoy the gardens and the band.
2014 is the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One and so some of the music played during the concert followed this theme, including Marching Music from World War 2 and Dads Army. Solos featured Kelvin Yendall on Cornet and Beryl McMillan on Flugel.
