The Cobham Band on Sunday 28th February played for the No.1 Area of the National Association of Brass Band Conductors (NABBC) at a workshop held at the Adrian Mann Theatre in Nescot, Ewell, Surrey. The workshop addressed the Regional Contest music for the 2010 National Brass Band Championships, specifically the Fourth Section Test Piece, ‘Saint-Saëns Variations’ by Philip Sparke for The Cobham Band. The former Principal Musical Director of The Royal Marines, Dr. Chris Davis OBE directed the band providing an opportunity for conductors in attendance to discuss the challenges of the test piece and to ‘take away some useful tips and ideas’.
The band played in the morning and then Epsom and Ewell Silver Band (First Section Nationally) played in the afternoon with Dr. Chris Davis OBE taking the band through the Third Section test piece ‘Labour and Love’, then Peter Bassano after a lunch break took the band on the Second and First Section test pieces, ‘Kingdom of Dragons’ and ‘A Moorside Suite’.
The workshop was a productive day and enjoyed by all.
